Destination Tunisia

Tunisia offers visitors a number of attractions comparable to the capacity of a country twice larger.
Starting from the remains of the Stone Age nearby Kebili’s oasis to the science fiction sceneries of Matmata shot by the 'Star wars' movie , its lush and moon landscapes have been the scene of a number of events greater than all the nations of the New World have ever experienced altogether. Few days spent in this country will be enough to give you evidence of its heritage. Daydreaming before the glorious Roman ruins of Carthage and El-Jem will be like plunging into Virgil’s 'Aeneid', whereas one day of absolute relax lying on the beaches of the Northern coast will make you wonder about what absurd reason made Hannibal flee away from here.

Although the influx of tourists throughout the year is scanty across most of the country, the lovers of frenzy holiday camps will not be disappointed. Whatever your requirements are, Tunisia, from the Tunis mix of French-Arab culture to the boundless stretches of the Sahara, will astonish you . 1.300 km of coastline cherished by a Mediterranean climate are there for you while centuries of history are in evidence along its walls surrounded by a magic Eastern atmosphere. Old and modern are here closely intertwined.

Tunisia blue coast, with its long beaches of fine sand, is enchanting for the lovers of the sea too. Tabarka, bordering with Algeria, is one of the most appreciated resort offering rich deep waters to be explored. The famous beaches of the Isle of Djerba have made it the Pearl of the Mediterranean while the beautiful, well-known resort of Hammamet has become Tunisia’s Saint-Tropez.
Among the attractions of this wonderful land the Sahara desert, the largest of the world and prevailing feature of Northern Africa ranks with its Berber villages as one of the most visited destination.
Tunisia is, however, also appreciated for its numerous cultural and musical events as Yasmine Hammamet Festival, the International Festival of Carthage and the Medina Festival.

Tunis, the capital and sea destination of Grimaldi Lines, more than other cities of the country shows off its double soul: the old Arab heritage and modernity.
On one hand the Medina, Tunis beating heart (included in the Unesco world heritage list), a labyrinth of alleys, colours and voices showing off the best of Tunisian handicraft. Here also one of the most relevant religious centres of the Arab world is found, the Jamma Zitouna (the Olive Mosque) as well as one of the most beautiful palaces of the Arab period, the Dar Hussein of the XVIII century housing the National Institute for Archeology and Arts.
On the other hand, the modern European face of the city with its grand hotels, cafés and shops along the elegant Avenue Bourgiba. A visit of the Museum of the Bard and the archeologic Park of Chartage is a must.
But you may also enjoy a ride on a camel or walk through one of the famous suk, the covered markets where fabrics and clothes can be found together with many more souvenirs!
Tunisian traditional dishes are cuscus, a typical mixture of vegetables and bran grains, the Brik, a thin stuffed fritter, and the méchouia salad.

Grimaldi Lines reaches Tunisi’s Port of La Goulette from Civitavecchia, Salerno, Palermo and Trapani with regular lines throughout the year.
